The other day we watched a couple opening scenes of some thrillers. The first one was called 'Children of men', its very political and the facts and the truth of the growing problems behind the storyline is the chilling part. the fact that the film is set in the near future were our problems we face now-a-days have increased dramatically and become a world wide problem, the reality is that the problem can come true. The bit that i most like about the opening sections the short chilling new announcement. that would be easy to do for our thriller. I think this is a great way to starts a thriller because it builds the tension and sets the scene immediately.
The second film we watched was called 'maltes falken' its an old low key black and white film which is very famous for the theatricals on building suspension. It is typically know as a film noir. Im not keen on everything being in black and white. If i based my film on a typical noir film i would add a hint of colour, say a red dress, connotation for blood and its very sexy. Then i could include the Femme Fatale or Venerable Hitchcock blond which are some characteristics that make up all good thrillers. I would say the downfall of the Maltes Falken is that in the opening minutes there is too much dialog. Dialog takes up time and there is a limited amount of camera work when their is dialog. so i suggest our group not have too much dialog.
